Within this project the development of advanced fiber materials is targeted. Within the research group of the PI, expertise is available on fibre and textile materials at all levels, from fibres and filaments over intermediates (yarns, fabrics, non-wovens) to end-applications via both experimental and model driven research methodologies. For this project the wide experience on solution spinning is relevant and will be further elaborated. It includes a vast knowledge build-up on the characterisation of the spinning solutions, the solvent spinning process itself including the use of green solvents as well as the characterisation of the resultant fiber materials in perspective of a broad range of end applications. In addition to innovations on fiber production, taking sustainability into account, a wide range of experimental characterisation tools will be used , such as rheology, thermal analysis, mechanical testing, spectroscopy, microscopy, etc.
