This project focuses on socio-ecological transformations in Flemish cities and evaluates how transdisciplinarity can contribute to sustainable urban development. Through case studies, we analyze how different actors and concerns are included or excluded, whose knowledge ultimately counts, how obstacles to change can be overcome, and how opportunities can be embraced. The cases examined include just energy transitions, sustainable mobility, urban renewal projects, social housing, and the circular economy. Empirical data are collected using a mixed-method approach, including literature review, participatory observations, and in-depth interviews. This project provides insights into the dynamics and complexities of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration and its potential added value in advancing sustainable urban transformations.
