Project description

Climate change (CC) is posing a challenge for agriculture worldwide, but producers’ and consumers’ perspectives are often overlooked in scientific research. This study addresses this gap by assessing perceptions and experiences of CC impacts and adaptation strategies among different actors along the value chain and across different regions and sectors of the European agrifood sector. To this end, this research involves interviews with relevant stakeholders and experts from the various sectors to identify CC-related developments and a SWOT-analysis of their sector (1), a farmer survey to explore their experience and perceptions around CC impacts on their practices and possible adaption strategies (2), and citizen/consumer research to investigate attitudes and acceptance related to adaptation strategies (3). Ultimately, the stakeholders’, farmers’, and citizens’ and consumers’ insights will be used to develop sustainable business models using the triple layered business model canvas. The findings will provide valuable insights for farmers, agricultural stakeholders, policy makers, and citizens/consumers alike, and highlight the importance of developing tailor-made strategies to enhance agricultural resilience and adaptive capacities in response to CC. This study will be unique in its simultaneous assessment among actor types and across regions and sectors.
