Project description

Wireless devices are becoming more and more ubiquitous. They are applied
in health care, for care of the elderly, gaming, virtual reality, surveillance and
security, ... It is necessary to have a good understanding of the interaction
between the electromagnetic waves used for such wireless devices and the human
body, both in order to be able to eectively design optimally functioning wireless
devices, and to ensure the user's exposure to electromagnetic waves remains
below legal safety standards. The human body is very complicated from an
electromagnetic point of view: it consists of many dierent materials (bone,
muscle, skin, ...) and these materials often occur as thin layers, properties
which are problematic for many commonly used algorithms in computational
electrodynamics. We intend to further develop a new computational technique
that enables the more accurate and ecient simulation of electromagnetic waves
under these conditions.
