Recently, the United Nations published the agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals for 203O. The driving force is "leaving no-one behind". The GSM Association translated this slogan into "leaving no-one offline" for the mobile industry as connectivity can have a positive impact on people's lives. To achieve this, they focus on four pillars:
(i) Connecting everyone to the mobile internet
(ii) Making the most of mobile internet
(iii) Building a greener society
(iv) Leading with purpose-driven strategy
This project will contribute to the first three pillars by focussing on the following four topics:
1) Characterizing the energy consumption of 5G and future networks
2) Energy-efficient design of future networks
3) Using renewable energy sources to power the wireless network
4) Sustainable roll-outs of future networks including a Life Cycle Assessment of the access network's infrastructure
