The research discipline holds the governance of food safety and quality across a food system (farm-to-fork) and contains two major research lines: Quality/food safety management systems and risk analysis. Food quality/safety management systems are focusing on guaranteeing quality (broadly defined) and food safety (hazards) at micro/meso level (i.e. post-harvest actors such as food industries, sector associations). Complementary to this, risk analysis (risk assessment, communication and management) is conducted at macro level and is addressing food safety risk from population perspective in preparation of policy decision (risk management). The combination of both complementary delivers multidisciplinary insights in the interaction of micro/meso and macro level in governing food safety/quality of our food system.
