Project description

Mass spectrometry is a widely used technology for the study of macromolecules. Complimentary to
the wide spread LC-MS instrumentation based on electrospray ionization, Matrix-assisted laser
desorption/ionisation mass spectrometry offers the analytical and matrix flexibility in workflows from
intact proteins analysis, glycoproteomics, biologics or oligonucleotide characterization, polymer
analysis until metabolite characterization and biomolecular imaging. This versatile instrument will be
used by a wide range of researchers within an interdisciplinary consortium of chemists, biologists and
biotechnologists. More specifically, the instrument will be used for in-depth characterization of
proteins, bioconjugates, sequence defined polymers etc. Further we will exploit the technology of
Maldi imaging for studying secondary metabolism, bacterial biofilms, host-bacteria interactions and
interactions of bacteria with micro-and nanoplastics
