Project description

The application includes a Micro-GC to replace an outdated version and an extension with an automated sample introduction by coupling a 'Multi Position Stream Selector Valve system' and a 'Gas Endeavour® system'. This extended equipment reinforces the unique position in Belgium of Lanupro (ruminant nutrition) for in vitro simulation of methane emissions by ruminants as both screening and mechanistic-kinetic studies are optimized. Similarly, Lanupro (meat science) makes use of this infrastructure in research on microbial digestion of meat in which the harmful hydrogen sulphide is formed. In both lines of research, reduction of the unwanted gas productions is central. Finally, the equipment is used as an essential reference and complement for the on-line gas analyses by the BioCo Research Group. This collaboration optimizes the utilization of the basic infrastructure and offers opportunities for cooperation in view of the joint focus on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
