In my research project I will examine the development of Buddhist monasticism in the Tiantai Mountains. The Tiantai Mountains were the sanctuary of a notable order of Chinese Buddhism, which had its monasteries scattered all over the mountain ridge. My project will examine the order’s general religious infrastructure, and the traditions connected with the individual monastic establishments.
