Project description

 In medical institutions and industrial laboratories, frequent
use of X-rays, such as for breast cancer screening
and inspection of welds in pipelines. This radiation has been generated in the same way for more
generated in the same way for more than a century and has a relatively low
intensity. For more advanced applications, such as the development of
high-tech materials and new drugs, high-intensity
X-rays, however, are indispensable.

 
Role of Ghent University
Ghent University is mainly involved in the application of this innovative X-ray source for high-resolution X-ray tomography (micro-CT). The Radiation Physics research group, part of the Ghent University Center for X-ray Tomography (UGCT), in collaboration with the spin-off company exploit this resource. In close collaboration with micro-CT users, UGCT will investigate the specific benefits of this source in a wide range of applications such as geology, materials science and pharmaceuticals. Ghent University has received additional funding from the Province of East Flanders for this purpose
