Project description

In this research proposal flow patterns and associated erosion and sedimentation patterns in river confluences will be investigated, in particular for situations in which the incoming discharges differ significantly in magnitude. Numerical modeling and an experimental setup are used to acquire fundamental insight in these phenomena, e.g. to minimize erosion protection and dredging needs after the execution of hydraulic engineering works at weir-lock complexes.
