Project description

It was recently discovered that besides ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB), also ammonia oxidizing archaea (AOA) play a role in nitrification. Although AOA have characteristics potentially rendering them more suitable for application than AOB, these have not been explored yet. In this project, boundary values of physicochemical AOA-promotors/AOB-suppressors will be identified to transit from bacterial to archaeal nitrification in a slow sandfilter.
