Project description

WAFoSaC project aims to enhance food safety culture (FSC) in Benin's food processing industry by strengthening risk awareness, hygiene practices, and regulatory compliance among 30 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in both rural and urban areas. Through capacity-building initiatives, tailored interventions, and collaboration with stakeholders such as the biggest University of Benin, the Beninese Food Safety Agency, and the League for the Defense of Consumers, the project will empower food business operators to adopt safer practices. Key activities include FSC assessments, co-creation of interventions, and policy recommendations. By fostering sustainable partnerships and integrating scientific research with practical applications, WAFoSaC will contribute to improving public health, reducing foodborne illnesses, and enhancing Benin's food industry's competitiveness. The project aligns with SDGs 2 and 3, ensuring safer food for all while strengthening institutional research capacity.
