Project description

Influenza viruses are a major public health threat. Also respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of severe respiratory disease. In this project, we will focus on the role and importance of the metabolite itaconate as an anti-inflammatory protective mechanism induced by activated myeloid cells during Influenza and RSV infections. With this, we aim to understand the process of metabolic ‘reprogramming’ in myeloid cells in the context of viral infections, which may have implications for the treatment of these pathologies.
