Project description
The study of sediment change effects on the biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, and their interlinkages, in the Scheldt estuary. De exchange of nutrients, oxygen, and sediment particles between the water column and sediment matrix (bentho-pelagic coupling) is investigated by means of field studies and laboratorium experiments. The specific role of macrobenthic organisms in mediating these processes will be determined.
