The project aims to develop entirely novel organogold architectures and compositions for use in photocatalysis. The ligand properties are the foundation of the design/control elements proposed in this investigation. The resulting well-defined complexes will permit detailed mechanistic investigations and their deployment in known and unknown photocatalyzed organic reactions. Spectroscopic studies will provide insights into the factors required for efficient gold compound synthesis and catalysis. The project is a mix of inorganic, organic, organometallic, physical chemistry, and synthesis, leading to robust and productive organogold systems. The straightforward synthetic access to novel gold compounds will permit the exploration of yet uncharted applications in luminescence and photocatalysis.
