This project proposal requests the acquisition of a micropyrolysis-GC-MS/PolyArc-FID setup as basic infrastructure, expanding existing advanced micropyrolysis equipment and potentially replacing it, considering the former’s age. The proposed device is essential for conducting both multidisciplinary and advanced research in the thermochemical conversion of organic compounds (including biomass and biomass-derived residues), allowing for a rationalized efficiency in equipment usage (advanced but manual experiments on current equipment and automated screening experiments on equipment to be requested). The proposal highlights the unique capabilities of the setup, including various sampling techniques and quantitative analysis thanks to the PolyArc-FID. Several research groups within Ghent University, besides the requesting group, will use the infrastructure, demonstrating its broad applicability.
