This research looks into the necessity of a federal socio-economic advisory body. An evaluation is made of existing formal advice requirements and existing advisory bodies, relevant for the marine environment. Based on this evaluation a proposal is made for a new advisory body for the marine environment, in which stakeholders are represented. Other alternatives are also proposed.
