Project description

As a complement of the Landscape atlas of Flanders, which describes the rural landscape, a detailed inventory of the built landscapes (including all kind of settlements: urban, villages, hamlets) is needed for an i ntegrated heritage policy and maangement in the scope of spatial and urban planning. Qualities, values and criteria are studied in foreign examples as well as the political and legal context in Flanders. This includes cultural, historical, geographical, architectural and archeological aspects. A method is proposed as well as pilot studies to test the method. Also, a proposal is made to integrate the results with other GIS-databases.
