Project description
This project will examine “lyricality” (Phelan) in Dutch-speaking fiction (1955-1975). Like poets, authors of experimental fiction emphasise the musical quality of the text, focus on speaker’s subjectivity or slow down the storyworld. Literary historiography relates these experiments to the socio-political contestations in the 1960s. I will adjust this view by showing that the lyrical procedures in fiction have diverse functions.
