Project description

My overall research topic involves optical microsystems including its design, realization (cleanroom technology) and characterization targeting applications in telecommunications, sensing and healthcare. A first cluster of activities centers around photonics packaging in which we develop advanced technologies for the dense co-integration of electronics and photonics into a fully functional microsystem. A second cluster of activities deals with developing laser-based microfabrication technologies for example to realize a variety of (optical) structures and sensors in glass or to achieve laser micro/nano printing. A third cluster of activities deals with biomedical photonics where we are using mechanically flexible technologies and biocompatible designs to achieve optical microsystems which are compatible with the human body.
