Project description

This research project constitutes of an analysis of metrical paratexts in Byzantine manuscripts, intending to acquire a deeper understanding of medieval book culture. This implies an investigation of how these texts (colophons, dedications, notitions) express the interests of textual communities, and how they justify patronage. A central issue is the way in which these texts regulate reading practices, both on a pragmatical and on a moral and ideological level.
