The project aims to leverage hosting capacity in distribution networks, using hybrid storage assets who allows fast charging applications at the one had and mitigate both voltage and current congestion. These assets are primarily installed to manage the energy offtake from the grid from the perspective of dynamic energy tariffs especially on locations who have a limited hosting capacity.
In a first approach the optimal combination of different storage technologies (i.e. batteries, flywheels and supercaps) as a function of "local" distribution grid needs will be studied.
The sizing of these hybrid storage systems and their optimal use taking into account the reception capacity of the local grid will be quantified. This will set power and energy limits and identify the potential offering grid flexibility in the energy market.
Different models and systems will be developped and tested under real scale conditions.
