Project description

FUCATIL will develop the bio-based synthesis of high-performance renewable chemicals
from available carbohydrates in abundant Flemish tributaries. This using a platform of high-performance yeast strains and fermentation strategies with in situ product purification, electrochemistry and chemoenzymatic conversion. With a view ton maximum valorization of the abundant tributaries, the focus in FUCATIL is on important industrial chemicals: acrylonitrile (ACN) and purified terephthalic acid (PTA) as building blocks for large-scale bulk polymers and trimellitic acid (TMA) as a specialty chemical and precursor for high-performance polymers and polymer adds.
