Facing the challenges of current globalization, an update of the history of Belgian economic expansion is needed. A comparative archive-based research on multinationals, and the Belgian Empain Group in particular, will be done. This will show how multinationals were the driving force behind the economic globalization of 1870-1914 and how they connected markets and people through foreign direct investment.
