In Belgium operate complementary research-based public service collections, embedded in the universities or scientific institutions in which they had their origin as a National Network of BRCs, coordinated by the Belgian Science Policy. The '' Belgian Coordinated Collections of Microorganisms (BCCM) 'currently include: BCCM / LMG bacteria (Ghent University), BCCM / MUCL agro-industrial fungi and yeasts (Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve), BCCM / IHEM biomedical fungi and yeasts (scientific institute health brussels) and BCCM / LMBP plasmids and DNA libraries (University of Ghent). In a previous project were added thereto three associated collections, the diatom collection of polar cyanobacteria of the University of Liege, and the collection of mycobacteria of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp. These associated collections were selected based on the size of their collection, their iniekheid, and the level of the associated scientific expertise. During the current project, the partners aim to professionalize these collections more and more close to the BCCM consortium
