In December 2009 decided VLIR (Flemish Interuniversity Council - University Development Cooperation) to deepen cooperation at the country level with Congo. Three Congolese partner universities were selected to serve as centers of excellence within the national cooperation. In addition, a transversal program for capacity was built up for seven DRC partner universities (as was already the case for ICT).
