Project description

Prof. Cosyn and his research group performed clinical research in the following domains: timing of implant placement (1), bio-engineering (2) and periodontal diagnosis and therapy (3). Most studies have been conducted in the first domain, which will continue in the years to come. It mainly concerns randomized controlled trials (often in multiple centres) in immediate implant placement after tooth extraction. Research has shown that immediate implant placement does not avoid hard and soft tissue loss after tooth extraction. As a result, immediate implant placement often needs to be combined with regenerative surgery to attain an aesthetic outcome. The goal is to conduct more clinical research in the next years focusing on effectiveness, cost-benefit and patient-reported outcomes of regenerative surgery in the context of immediate implant placement.
