The goal of this project is to improve, through measurement and management of condition, the longevity and productivity of the modern sow with attention to sow welfare. To this end, we will first examine how condition management over different cycles relates to productivity and welfare of the sow and her piglets. Then, how through adjusting the condition management of sows lifespan, productivity and animal welfare can be improved is investigated.
