Since about 2016, ESG topics dominate discourses and research about business, esp. corporate law and financial regulation, in Europe. This will contionue for the next few years, despite the backlash that started in 2024. This project will consist of ffurther research on topics at the intersection of sustaianbility and corporate law, including on the implementation of CSRD and CSDDD.  I have for example been asked  by the leading German corporate law journal ZGR to coordinate an international conference in Brussels (funded by ZGR) on the EU's sustaianability rgeulation as applied to firms. The project will focus on the impact of this type of rgeulation on SMEs,  on the role of supervisoary agencies in finetuning and implementing the rules, and on the balance between public and private enforcement, including through liability rules.
