Project description

The analysis of botanical remains from natural sedimentary archives and archaeological contexts (archaeobotany) provides information on the vegetation and environmental context of past societies and on how these human populations exploited their environment for food, fuel and raw materials for constructions and tools. Archaeobotany is therefore an important element in modern day archaeological research. The proposed equipment will enable the establishment of such a research line at the Department of Archaeology and strengthen its international position in landscape archaeology with the additional research capacity for the analysis of pollen and spores (palynology), wood (xylology), charcoal (anthracology) and phytoliths.
