Project description

In this project are three major academic components. First and foremost there is a more epidemiological section whereby the species included in the study of nasal staphylococci will be isolated and their parents or owners, as well as carcasses of animals from these companies. In this methods will be set to point to the isolation of non -aureus methicillin-resistant staphylococci. The sensitivity of these strains to other antibiotics, will be determined. A second part consists of identifying (by means of molecular and biochemical assays) and characterizing genetic (PFGE, spa typing, MLST) of the staphylococci as well as their region of methicillin resistance (PCR and sequencing methods). Thirdly, various factors will be explored that might contribute to the transfer of methicilinne resistant staphylococci from animals to humans.
