Designing polymer materials that combine the benefits of thermosets (=irreversibly cured) with the ‘plastic’ properties of thermoplastic polymers, such as polyethylene, to facilitate processing is a challenge that has recently attracted great interest in industrial context. A way to make the combination of these properties is offered by the introduction of exchangeable chemical bonds into a polymer network, leading to dynamic cross-links. Our ambition is to combine the tunable chemical platforms we developed for this purpose with common thermoset formulations and thus to provide a novel material design approach for large volume synthetic polymer classes. Two novel chemical strategies have recently been developed for which IPR protection is pursued.
