Project description
As emerging technologies are transforming the way we approach medical and healthcare education, it is imperative that our trainees are at the forefront of the development of new tools and digital platforms, while simultaneously becoming fluent in these technologies. In the INSIDE:INSIGHT project, we build a training network for young professionals, making them versed in educational technologies, 3D visualisation and collaborative working, while equipping them with a wide range of transferable skills. This is attained by bringing together researchers from biomedical sciences, computer sciences, educational sciences, biomedical engineering, medical technology and bioethics, as well as partners from the industry. The research focuses on the development, implementation and validation of XR-enhanced educational tools for biomedical and health sciences. This is achieved by: 1) Developing evidence-based technology-enhanced learning (TEL) materials and platforms building upon our track record in this domain; 2) Using a theoretical framework to evaluate how the implementation of TEL materials impacts effective learning and knowledge retention, and 3) To identify the elements that are needed to maximize these effects. By integrating disciplines and sectors we go beyond the state-of-the-art and develop evidence-based XR learning environments that are effective, future-proof and tailored to the needs of diverse learners. The project addresses EU's Open Education policy, creating learning materials that are free and accessible to all, at any time. This will facilitate remote learning taking student diversity in all its aspects into account. At the same time, this interdisciplinary and intersectoral network creates diverse, high-level training opportunities for the proposed Doctoral Candidates providing the trainees with a broad range of skills that will empower them to become the leaders of tomorrow.
