The basic funding will be used for the general further development of new research in the field of "Design and Construction of Bridges, Roads, and Tunnels." Currently, the focus is on the following research lines (non-exhaustive):

• Use of digital images and drones for bridge monitoring, specifically for damage detection, determining deformations, and ultimately even strain measurements of existing structures. At present, equipment is available for exploratory research, but the purchase of larger and more stable cameras and drones will be necessary.
• Reuse and sustainability in bridge construction. Which bridges or bridge components can be reused? What is the impact of current design choices on future sustainability and reuse?
• Tunnel monitoring, also in relation to the use of traffic tunnels as "Energy tunnels."
