The Cultural Heritage Decree of the Flemish Community includes several instruments, among which is the Quality Label for Collection Managing Institutions. GUM & Plantentuin received this recognition two years after opening, in July 2022. This Quality Label is important because it grants collection managing organizations access to both project and operational subsidies for carrying out their (heritage) functions.
The (annual) structural operational subsidies are awarded for a minimum period of five years. A collection managing entity with a Quality Label can be classified at the national or supra-local level. An application for classification is part of the application for operational subsidies, and the classification is indefinite. GUM & Plantentuin, along with their policy plan, also applied for classification at the national level.
