Project description
The anti-oxidative/anti-inflammatory effects of heme oxygenase 1 (H0-1)/biliverdin reductase are studied in the gastrointestinal tract. In vitro peritoneal macrophages and intestinal epithelial cells and in vivo mice are exposed to oxidative and bacterial stress. The influence of endogenous HO-1 induction or of CO-releasing molecules, biliverdine and bilirubine is studied concentrating on the cellular mechanism involved.
