Project description

This project investigates the development of Sinhalese monastic identity in the fifth century. Sinhalese Buddhism had a major impact on the development of Buddhism in South and South-east Asia. The identification process of the Mahaviharanikaya will be studied against the influence of the other Sinhalese nikayas by means of an investigation of reflections from these schools in the Pali commentaries.
