Project description
 

An integrated cell culture (ICC)-RT-PCR will be developed for the detection of noroviruses which will be a better indication for infectivity in contrary to RT_PCR. The ICC-RT-PCR technique will be validated in naturally contaminated water derived from the primary plant production in Belgium. Besides, the effect of intrinsic characteristics of fresh produce onto viral infectivity will be studied. The data generated will be used to perform a risk-analysis concerning viral contamination and transmission routes in the production chain of fresh produce.
