Project description

This project will generate quantitative paleo-earthquake information for South-Central Chile. We reconstruct the temporal evolution of slope stability of sedimentary sequences in several Chilean lakes.

This allows us to reveal the strength of paleo-earthquake shaking which made these sequences collapse. For this, a bathymetric and geotechnical study is executed in collaboration with ETH Zürich and MARUM Bremen.
