The SYSTEMIC network offers an integrated approach to the challenge of sustainable food systems: adaptive and mitigation strategies to address climate change and malnutrition. SYSTEMIC will bring together scientists and practitioners from diverse disciplines and expertise across different parts of the food system to explore cross-cutting solutions, identify knowledge gaps, and develop pathways for climate-resilient food system transformation that can address societal challenges.

While information on policies and technologies that would improve the productivity and sustainability of individual agricultural sectors is available to some extent, the literature provides virtually no information or experience for countries and communities considering a comprehensive approach (cross-sectoral policies, strategies, and technologies) to sustainable food and agriculture.

This project is the first attempt to fill this gap and provides information on proven options and opportunities that ensure sustainable, resilient, and nutritious food from both land and sea. The SYSTEMIC project is based on researchers from 42 research groups working in eight countries by establishing a network to better understand food and nutrition security in a changing environment. National and transnational collaboration on research projects, along with the transfer of knowledge and technology, are the main objectives of the research teams working on this project.
