Demand-side flexibility has been identified as one of most promising solutions to accommodate more renewable energy sources and to enhance the competitiveness of end consumers (especially industrial consumers). Existing studies have already identified institutional, technological, and behavioral barriers to exploit the full potential of industrial demand-side flexibility. Nevertheless, overcoming these barriers requires sound knowledge of the flexibility potential in the production processes. In particular, a manufacturing
company needs to be able to identify and quantify (1) immediately available flexibilities and, (2) exploitable flexibilities via adequate investments, in all production processes. Therefore, the EneMaX project will deliver insights in the exploitable demand-side flexibilities and design a methodology to exploit these flexibilities in manufacturing companies.
