Project description
Self-healing concrete is regarded as a promising solution to reduce high maintenance and repair cost of concrete infrastructure. A microbial-based self-healing strategy is to use microbially induced CaCO3 precipitation to in-situ heal concrete cracks upon formation, which is an environmentally friendly procedure. This project focuses on obtaining a better understanding of the bacterial behavior and on providing efficient self-healing to increase concrete durability.
