The SIP programme with the University of the Western Cape continues on a path of reciprocity in exchange, focusing on research capacity and mutual learning. The focus continues to be on the initiation and support for joint doctoral projects which are shaped around discipline-anchored research themes and foster the relevance of strategic N/S-capacity in a context of globalisation. The envisaged programme is committed to continuing and finalising the current group of joint doctoral projects (12 in total, of which 2 have been submitted and defended, 2 more are expected to be submitted before the “renewed” programme begins). In addition, we seek to double the total number, while actively seeking to broaden still the range of disciplines and fields of enquiry which sign on. In addition, a series of seminars and workshops will be organised (online and on site) in which the SIP-related joint phd scholars present their work to specialist audiences and wider publics. This will be complemented with a number of methodological initiatives for the group as a whole.
