Project description

Since 2009 people have been confronted with the new disease Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS) during shrimp farming on an industrial scale - especially in Asia. Estimated annual losses amount to more than 1 billion dollars. Solutions for this disease are urgently needed as there are no commercially available treatments to date. At the Aquaculture & ARC Lab we have succeeded in designing a strategy to prevent the disease. The aim of the proposed project is to test a battery of new isolates for protection against EMS and thus to obtain multi-application probiotics that can be commercialized.
