Project description

Mangrove forests in Indonesia, especially in Bangka Island, are threatened by deforestation and degradation driven by aquaculture, agriculture, palm oil plantations, and tin mining. This study uses satellite and inventory data to monitor mangrove extent and health from 1989 to 2022, identifying significant drivers of mangrove loss. This information can inform conservation, management, and restoration efforts in the region.
