Project description

Abstract (max. 60 woorden): The goal of this thesis is to obtain a better understanding of the self-healing phenomenon making the link between different scales from microscopic scale to real size small beams. This project aims at providing answers to fundamental modelling questions. A first hydro-chemo-mechanical model is developed to simulate autogenous healing by further hydration. New environmental healing conditions are developed to increase and accelerate natural healing efficiency by calcium carbonate precipitation. A reactive transport model is constructed to simulate autogenous healing by calcium carbonate precipitation which seems to be the predominant phenomenon in most of the cases. In this thesis we also propose to implement non-linear modulation of CODA wave interferometry in concrete to detect very small cracks, and develop a technique to follow up on the self-healing mechanism.
