Project description
The project identifies and inventories the major private art collections active in Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent between 1830 and 1940, determining their social profile and relations and analysing the discussion of their collections in contemporary publications in order to draw conclusions about the collectors’ role in the creation, mediation and reception of a national taste and canon.
