Project description

This IOF project, HiPRheLub, focuses on the design and development of a cutting-edge, fully instrumented ultra-high-pressure rheometer. This innovative device will enable comprehensive thermomechanical characterization of liquid lubricants across varying states, including different pressures, temperatures, and shear rates.

A recent market analysis, performed at UGent, has highlighted the critical need for such a tool, which provides essential measurements for understanding lubricant behaviour in lubricated machine components. The insights gained from the results obtained by this rheometer will assist mechanical component and machinery manufacturers in optimizing their designs and fine-tuning operational conditions, ultimately leading to reduced energy consumption and extended product lifespan.
