Project description
This project proposes a transnational approach to the national selfportraits published in the 1840s in Europe. National self-portraits were collaborative anthologies that attempted to capture the essence of a nation through the repreesentation of its consitutive types or scenes. This project examines how the intertextualities and international dialoque among these collections shaped the definition of national identity in the 1840s.
